WHAT do you get if you cross an Elvis impersonator with the songs of Nirvana? The answer is, of course, Elvana, the world's only 'Elvis'-fronted Nirvana cover band who have been picking up rave reviews for their enthusiastic live shows over the past 18 months.

The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne based group are finally coming to Ireland later this year, for dates in Belfast (Dec 7, Limelight 2), Dublin (Dec 8, Academy), Galway (Dec 9, Roisin Dubh) and Limerick (Dec 10, Limerick Library).

Elvis 'Paul' Cobain (vocals), Danny Cobain (guitar), Rob Novoselic (bass) and Bobby Grohl (drums) combine Nirvana classics performed in the style of ol' snakehips, occasionally juxtaposing them with an (in)appropriate Elvis number – their version of Rape Me often morphs into Love Me Tender, for example, while Can't Help Falling In Love With You serves as a fitting prelude to Heart-Shaped Box.

The King and Kurt, together at last: some may sneer at such 'novelty band' antics, but I'll bet you a deep-fried peanut butter, jam and bacon sarnie that Elvana will be the best sing-along show of the year.
