TWO of Strabane’s finest brass bands kick off the three-day Strabane Summer Jamm Festival at the Alley Theatre on Friday June 9.

The family-friendly festival's opening concert will feature Omagh-born soprano Gerarda McCann, who studied at the Trinity College of Music in London and worked professionally in Australia before returning to Ireland.

Strabane's reputation as a 'brass band town' is being nurtured by St Joseph’s Brass Band and the Strabane Concert Brass, who will come together for the opening night's concert along with local musicians, schools and clubs. The Brass Workshop, part of a youth music initiative, will also perform.

Mullingar, Co Westmeath, rockers The Blizzards – fronted by The Voice of Ireland's Niall Breslin – headline on Saturday June 10; there's a Country Jamm Concert on Sunday June 11 and events including a busking competition, market and street entertainment throughout the weekend.

:: Tickets £5; to book visit derrystrabane.com/SummerJamm or call the Alley Theatre box office at 028 7138 4444.
