Arts Q&A: Eoghan Quigg on Ed Sheeran, football and becoming a radio personality
Jenny Lee puts performers and artists on the spot about what really matters to them. This week Derry singer and broadcaster Eoghan Quigg
1. When did you think about music/broadcasting as a career and what were your first steps into it?
I started singing in the school choir and doing musicals from around the age of nine. It wasn't until I applied for The X Factor in 2008 when I thought of music as a career. As for broadcasting, that came to me through being heavily involved within the music industry. Getting to see first hand how the process and how it worked really interested me.
2. Best gigs you've been to?
Radio 1's Big Weekend in Derry in 2013, with Bruno Mars being the highlight, Ed Sheeran and The Script, both in Croke Park in summer 2015.
3. Fantasy wedding/birthday party band?
Wedding – George Michael. Birthday – David Bowie.
4. The record you'd take to a desert island?
Creedence Clearwater Revival with Have You Ever Seen The Rain?
5. And the book?
Make it Rain by Terri Marie.
6. Top three films?
Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption and Star Wars – The Complete Saga.
7. Worst film you've seen?
Goon (2011). It was the only time I've ever left the cinema during a film, just awful. Apparently there is a sequel to be released later this year. That's one movie I definitely will not be going to see.
8. Favourite authors?
If I had to pick one it would be JK Rowling for the Harry Potter series.
9. Sport you most enjoy and top team?
Football has always been a big part of my life. I started playing competitively at the early age of seven and still do. I'm a huge Manchester United fan.
10. Ideal holiday destination?
The Bahamas or the Maldives.
11. Pet hate?
None really, but if I had to pick one it would be my dog who never lets me eat in peace and is always begging for food.
12. What's your favourite:
Dinner? I make a mean chilli con carne.
Dessert? Anything chocolatey with hot custard.
Drink? A nice cold glass of water or a creamy Guinness.
13. Who is your best friend and how do you know each other?
I have two best friends and a series of really good friends, but I'm not naming them in case any took offence. We all come from the same town and grew up playing sport together.
14. Is there a God?
:: Former X Factor star Eoghan Quigg has been signed up by Q Radio for a new feature, On the QT with Eoghan Quigg, which will see him host showbiz news and roadshows across Northern Ireland.
