Essential festival: Women's Work at Oh Yeah

BACK for its second year at, the Women's Work festival in Belfast will celebrate women in music via a range of activities open to all.

This year’s programme includes over 50 musical acts across six dedicated days from May 24 to 29, with additional content throughout the month of May.

The main music showcase will include performances by September Girls (Dublin), New Pagans (Belfast/Derry), Masha Qrella (Berlin), Beauty Sleep (Belfast), Party Fears (Berlin) and Roe (Derry), with journalist and broadcaster Jen Long wrapping things up with a special DJ set.

There will also be an evening of live music with Alana Henderson, Roise Carney, Hannah McPhillimy and Larks, plus a rooftop gig with Katharine Philippa.

Industry speakers, panellists and writers will also lead a series of discussions, talks and workshops during Women's Work.

Events include music journalist Sylvia Patterson, author of I'm Not With The Band: A Writer's Life Lost in Music, in conversation and a Q&A with mastering engineer Mandy Parnell (Bjork, Sigur Ros)

GIRL collective's club night will feature DJs Marion Hawkes, Venus Dupree and Holly Leste, while Girls Rock School NI will offer workshops, tuition, discussion and performance.

Participating venues include Oh Yeah, Start Together Studio, The Black Box, The Pavilion and Strand Arts Centre.
