Silicon Valley series four

MIKE 'Beavis and Butt-Head' Judge-created tech comedy Silicon Valley returns to our screens for a fourth series next week.

A frequently hilarious satire of the California-based computer industry, it centres on neurotic programming genius Richard (Thomas Middleditch) as he attempts to turn his start-up company Pied Piper into a major player in Silicon Valley.

That's a tall order, given that he must rely on an erratic bunch of colleagues including perma-stoned loudmouth partner Erlich (TJ Miller), acerbic network engineer/Satanist Gilfoyle (Martin Starr), hapless programming wiz Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) and Pied Piper's painfully straight-laced CFO, Jared (Zach Woods).

In the new series, Pied Piper schisms after being forced to 'pivot' away from its pioneering but publicly shamed data compression platform in favour of pushing PiperChat, the next-gen streaming application hacked together by Dinesh to enhance his interactions with his Estonian internet girlfriend – who promptly dumped him once she actually got a non-pixelated look at him.

Now a pariah among his tech peers, Richard is reluctant to give up his dream of his revolutionary data compression algorithm becoming a world-beating industry standard – and decides to focus on re-inventing the Internet instead.

Meanwhile, Pied Piper 50 per cent shareholder and professional 'fail upper' Big Head (Josh Brener) doesn't let his shocking lack of brainpower stand in the way of a return to academia.

:: Silicon Valley starts Monday April 24 on Sky Atlantic at 10.10pm.
