SIGALA brings his live show to Belfast’s Limelight tonight and the DJ/producer/musician who has enjoyed huge success with songs such as Easy Love and Sweet Lovin’ tells me he can’t wait to get back in front of his fans in Northern Ireland.

“I’ve always had a great time in Belfast and I’m really looking forward to feeling that energy from the audience again. What I try and do in my shows is give off as much energy and enthusiasm as possible so when you get a crowd who are really up for it too then the atmosphere can just be off the scale.”

The difference with Sigala (real name Bruce Fielder) is that he isn’t simply a dance DJ content with making floor fillers and settling for life behind a studio keyboard or decks – he comes from a ‘rock band’ style tradition where a live show is of paramount importance.

“I used to be in rock bands and played loads of gigs and I’ve been a musician for so many years. I started playing piano when I was eight and therefore the actual musical side is really where it’s at for me. Of course I incorporate all the technology and I’m totally comfortable as well doing DJ sets but with the Sigala live shows I use other musicians and singers on stage to really achieve that live concert feel.

"It’s been working out really well too. I think people feel they have got more value for money when they see a stage filled with players and singers really getting into it and performing for them. That’s the show I’m bringing to the Limelight so people can expect a party on the night."

Sigala’s enthusiasm for actual musicianship in the dance music world must have really reached fever pitch when Nile Rodgers got involved on his track with John Newman – Give Me Your Love. I put it to him that for someone with both a passion for the dancefloor and a love of guitar talent, it simply doesn’t get better than that.

“No, it couldn’t possibly get better than that! I mean, Nile Rodgers is an absolute hero and was a total pioneer when it comes to making euphoric and uplifting dance music. The records he was making with Chic and Sister Sledge were just staggeringly good and he is still relevant today especially with his work with Daft Punk etc. As for his guitar playing, well he’s just incredible. I was so happy when he agreed to work on the record with myself and John and he brought so much to it."

Sigala’s collaborations have been extremely well chosen, well conceived and seem derived once again from his desire to ensure that his records showcase obvious vocal talent .

“John Newman is great, I love working with him. The type of singers I like working with are ones that have soul in their voice and John has that in abundance. He’s also a real pleasure to be in the studio with. The same goes for Craig David, we worked really well together and he has a brilliant voice and is so full of ideas in the studio. I’ve been lucky to work with people whom I admire and respect."
