THERE'S a new documentary about Irish football legend George Best – and audiences in his hometown of Belfast will be among the first to see it.

From the producers of the acclaimed Bobby Sands: 66 Days, the Daniel Gordon (Hillsborough) directed Best (George Best: All By Himself) had its world premiere at the BFI London International Film Festival last October.

The documentary about the troubled life of the so-called 'fifth Beatle' will have its Irish premiere in conjunction with the Belfast Film Festival on Thursday February 16 at Movie House Dublin Road, followed by a screening at the Dublin International Film Festival on Saturday February 18 at Cineworld, Dublin.

Director Dan Gordon and producer Trevor Birney will attend both screenings and will take part in post-screening Q&A’s. Best (George Best: All By Myself) – let's just refer to it as 'Best' from here on out, shall we? – will then go on general release from Friday February 24.

Given Best's legendary nimbleness on the pitch, it seems ironic that this new documentary should boast such an unwieldy title.

However, featuring plenty of footage of 'Bestie' in action plus testimony by those who knew him and interview excerpts with the man himself, the reviews from its London premiere were largely positive – making this a must-see for all fans of the late Manchester United icon, football's first (and possibly last) 'rock star'.
