JOIN Classical Music Masters at Strule Arts Centre on Saturday 14 January for an evening of classical music. The line-up includes soloists Andreea Banciu (viola) and Adrian Mantu (cello) of the celebrated RTE Contempo String Quartet with pianist Aileen Cahill.

Classical Music Masters will perform a cabaret style programme including Glinka's Russian Viola sonata, Schubert's Arpeggione Cello Sonata, Poulenc's piano works, Beethoven's Duet with two eyeglasses obbligato, the Trio op 114 by Brahms and popular Romanian tunes.

Dubbed 'the ABBA of classical music', the Contempo string quartet was founded in Bucharest, Romania in 1995 and have won prizes at 14 international competitions. Contempo have been Quartet-in-Residence under the Galway Music Residency since 2003 and were appointed RTÉ String Quartet in Residence in 2013.

They recorded the music for the hit TV series Band of Brothers and have performed for the likes of Prince Charles, Pope John Paul II and Nelson Mandela.

Aileen Cahill has won many prizes for solo piano, organ, chamber music, piano duet, as well as vocal and instrumental duo and is currently repetiteur and keyboard tutor at National University of Ireland, Maynooth and the Conservatory of Music, DIT.
