WHO: Nothing But Thieves

WHAT: Southend-on-Sea five-piece

WHY: They're destined for big things, and they sound brilliant

HOW: The bones of Nothing But Thieves were formed some years ago when frontman Conor Mason was 12, and Joe Langridge-Brown was 15. After playing together in their hometown, the latter went off to study for a degree in ancient history.

Meanwhile, Mason met Dominic Craik, who quickly caught the ear of a management company who wanted them to recruit more members.

Fortuitously, Langridge-Brown was finishing up at university, and the three-strong core of the band, who write all the songs, were ready to be joined by Philip Blake and James Price.

They released their debut EP in October 2013, and have since followed it with three more.

Their self-titled debut album came out last year and was released in the States earlier this year, where the band have been building a strong fanbase through touring extensively.

While Nothing But Thieves charted at number seven, their anthemic, radio-friendly tunes, reminiscent of Muse and Foals, are destined for even bigger things.

THEY SAY: "We write 24/7," explains Conor. "I don’t really stop with writing music. We have a studio on the tour bus and in my room, and my MacBook never leaves my side.

"Same is to be said for the other boys. I see Joe stockpiling lyrics in his phone whenever we’re waiting around or travelling. Not giving too much away, but things are shaping up nicely for album two."

WHERE: The band are going to be touring from November 30, so seeing them live is a good start – although so far no Irish dates have been announced.

After that, you can stream their EPs, singles and album from the usual places, Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud.
