Gig of the week: The Wedding Present
The Wedding Present, Saturday November 26, The Limelight 2, Belfast
DAVID Gedge and his not so merry men – plus Danielle, the latest female bassist to play with the long-running indie rockers – return to Belfast tomorrow evening on their tour for excellent current LP, Going, Going....
The band also have another new release lined up, namely the self-explanatory Marc Riley Sessions Volume 1, compiling their appearances on The Boy Lard's top-notch 6Music programme over the past few years.
Released on December 9, the forthcoming Hatch Records disc features a nice mix of classic Weddoes like Something and Nothing, Brassneck (and its fabulously noisy b-side, Gone), Everyone Thinks He Looks Daft and Heather alongside raw and ready renditions of more recent material such as Don't Take Me Home Until I'm Drunk, Palisades and The Thing I Like Best About Him Is His Girlfriend.
Expect to hear a couple of those tomorrow night along with the best of the new studio LP (current single Kill Devil Hills, motorik strumfest Fifty-Six and the lovestruck Rachel, perhaps?) and more favourites from the solid gold David Lewis Gedge songbook.
Quality support comes courtesy of Dublin indie-psychesters September Girls.
:: Tickets £16.50, doors 7pm.
