Sleaford Mods, Friday October 21, Mandela Hall, Belfast

THE Sleafords return to Belfast next week for their biggest gig here to date.

Still riding high from the breakthrough success of last year's Key Markets album, Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn have now reached something of a career crossroads.

Taking their beats-powered, bass-driven post-punk venting forward musically without losing the refreshingly raw and real grittiness that's endeared them to a legion fans will be a tough task, but it's something they've already begun to tackle with the new TCR EP, released today.

The bleepily melodic yet reassuringly splenetic title track will remind 30 and 40 somethings of wet Saturday afternoons whiled away playing Total Control Racing, the great Scalextric rival of the 1970s and 80s, while also allaying any fears that the duo might be losing their edge.

Expect to hear this and all your old favourites spat out live next Friday evening.

:: Tickets £17 via Ticketmaster outlets.
