PORTRUSH-born potter Jack Doherty is to undertake a residency at the famous Mashiko Ceramics Museum in Japan prior to launching this year's August Craft Month in Northern Ireland.

The Co Antrim man is lead potter and creative director at the renowned Leach pottery in St Ives, Cornwall, co-founded in 1920 by celebrated Japanese potter Shoji Hamada (whose former home became the Mashiko) and his friend Bernard Leach, 'the father of British studio pottery'.

Doherty will be launching August Craft Month with Waypoint, a new solo exhibition at Armagh's Market Place Theatre Gallery.

Doherty will give a talk on his work on July 27 before the exhibition opens on July 28.
