THE Larne Summer Festival kicks off this weekend with a colourful carnival parade through the town centre.

Schools and clubs from the local area will feature in the parade, including young people who have learnt to stilt walk for the event.

The festival opens in Larne town centre on Saturday June 4 with live music at Broadway Bandstand from 2pm to 4pm as well as face-painting and walkabouts.

The parade will leave Larne YMCA at 3pm and will pass through the town centre about 15 minutes later.

On Saturday June 11 the festival continues from 11am to 3pm with a colourful craft and food market at Larne Market Yard.

Activities will include salsa dance workshops, arts and crafts, walkabouts and street theatre, a photo booth and carnival games.

There will also be live music from the Mardi Gras Jazz Band and the Bourbon Swing Band, while all ages will be accommodated with Fairy Twinkle on hand to tell stories.

A bus will run regularly every half hour throughout the event to take visitors into the town centre.

On Wednesday June 15 the UK Street Velodrome Series rides into Larne Leisure Centre, with school sessions from 10am to 4pm and public sessions from 5pm to 8pm.

And on Sunday June 19 a special town centre bike will take place where cyclists are encouraged to dress in superhero costumes for a 'best dressed' competition.

Cyclists should gather at Broadway from 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start, and all participants must wear a cycle helmet.
