EXCELLENT Batman 'origin' series Gotham returns on Monday with a storyline focused on the titular city's mutation from mundane mob rule to super villain-riddled chaos.
Gotham's last honest cop, detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), has been relegated to traffic duty after uncovering Commissioner Loeb's corruption.
Gordon's days on the beat are numbered until he is forced to call in a favour with with Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) AKA Penguin, now in control of the city's largest criminal gang.
Meanwhile, young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) has discovered his late father's huge underground cave beneath Wayne Manor – its purpose as yet unknown – just as an escaped gang of criminal insaniacs begin to wreak havoc on Gotham.
Thus begins 'the rise of the villains' in a city that will soon be crying out for a new hero to restore order.
