TYRONE comedian Kevin McAleer, Belfast Americana act Wookalily and an ode to Oscar Wilde are on their way to the Island Arts Centre in Lisburn.

King of deadpan comedy McAleer plays the venue on Friday November 20 (tickets £12/£15). Fellow comic Stewart Lee has said that McAleer’s live performances "raise the bar by which stand-up comedy is judged".

He has attracted a new army of fans who have watched clips of him on YouTube, with his slide show and clips from his Nighthawks appearances on RTE particularly popular.

Folk/bluegrass band Wookalily – Lyndsay Crothers, Adele Ingram, Sharon Morgan and Louise Potter – play the Island on Saturday December 5 (tickets £12). The band’s influences include Arlo Guthrie, Sandy Denny and Janis Joplin. Their debut album All The Waiting While was released last year.

Olivier Award-nominated actor Gerard Logan, meanwhile, will bring Oscar Wilde's De Profundis to Lisburn on November 27 (tickets £10/£12). His show Wilde Without the Boy is a glimpse into the soul of one of Ireland’s greatest literary geniuses.
