BALTIMORE indie duo Beach House kick off their latest European tour in Belfast tomorrow night.

There's no better time for these Sub Pop-signed purveyors of Cocteau Twins-esque swoon pop to hit the road, having just released two new albums virtually back to back in the form of Depression Cherry, which arrived in August, and last week's unexpectedly speedy follow-up Thank Your Lucky Stars.

Surpised? You shouldn't have been – well, not according to band themselves, at least:

"Just becuz we didn’t send the record to press 6 months before its release does not make it a surprise," tweeted Alex Scally (guitar) and Victoria Legrand (keys/vox) with regard to the unconventionally abrupt release of their sixth LP.

"We only wanted to release a record in a new way after doing it one way for so long, not a dis or manifesto of any kind, just experimentin'."

So now you know.

As for Depression Cherry, the duo viewed their fifth album as a back to basics kind of affair.

"In general, this record shows a return to simplicity, with songs structured around a melody and a few instruments, with live drums playing a far lesser role," they said.

"With the growing success of Teen Dream and Bloom, the larger stages and bigger rooms naturally drove us towards a louder, more aggressive place; a place farther from our natural tendencies.

"Here, we continue to let ourselves evolve while fully ignoring the commercial context in which we exist."
