Did you miss? Van Morrison live on Cyprus Avenue
IF YOU couldn't make it to east Belfast in person on Monday and missed the Beeb's live radio broadcast from the first of Van Morrison's 70th birthday bash concerts up on Cyprus Avenue, you've one last chance to catch him in action on the telly tonight.
The BBC cameras were rolling as Van The Man braved the rain to hit the specially constructed stage on his favourite street for a tight set peppered with jazzy renditions of 'songs from years ago' including Moondance, Brown Eyed Girl, Days Like This and Baby Please Don't Go plus duets with guest vocalists on tunes like Whatever Happened to PJ Proby?, featuring PJ himself, and Born To Sing with Chris Farlowe.
Bad jokes aside ("Did you hear about the Dalai Lama? He walked up to a hotdog seller in New York and said 'Make me one with everything'") and the glaring omission of the song that made the occasion happen in the first place, it was a pretty great performance by the newly minted septuagenarian who made a memorable start to his eighth decade in the heart of east Belfast.
