Fargo, Friday August 21, Strand Arts Centre, Belfast

YET another 90s cinematic classic returns to the big screen at the Strand, this time as part of the EastSide Arts Festival.

Fargo is probably tied with The Big Lebowski as the Coen brothers' most beloved film project. While the former has definitely inspired far more fancy-dress outfits, thanks to Jeff Bridges' iconic turn as stoner god 'The Dude', Fargo's tightly plotted, snow-bound neo-noir crime antics are arguably even more rewatchable than the free-wheeling, surrealist vibe of Lebowski's LA-set trip.

With the second series of the hit Fargo TV spin-off due to begin in October, now is the perfect time to revisit the Coen's rich source material, which features a terrific Oscar-winning lead performance from Frances McDormand as heavily pregnant small-town police chief Marge Gunderson plus scene-stealing supporting roles for Steve Buscemi as a irascible hitman hired by William H Macy's conniving car salesman.
