Iron Maiden – The Book of Souls

SCREAM for them, metal fans – rock legends Iron Maiden are releasing their new album The Book of Souls on September 4

Recorded last year, the Irons' 16th long player was put on ice for a few months to allow for singer Bruce Campbell to recover fully from his successful skirmish with cancer.

With that battle now done and dusted, its double album-sized delights will soon be unleashed upon us.

Clocking in at a mammoth 92 minutes split across two separate discs on both vinyl and CD, The Book Of Souls is a hefty tome indeed – in fact, it's the veteran Londoners' longest studio album to date by some margin, possibly due to the way in which it was created.

"We approached this album in a different way," confirms Steve 'Bomber' Harris, purveyor of the band's signature galloping bass sound.

"A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio and we rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh.

"I think that immediacy really shows in the songs, they have almost a live feel to them, I think."

Bruce Dickinson elaborates: “We’re really excited about The Book of Souls and had a fantastic time creating it.

"By the time we’d finished, we all agreed that each track was such an integral part of the whole body of work that if it needed to be a double album, then a double it's going to be."

Who are we to argue?
