The Spoils Before Dying, Thursday July 23, FOX, 10.30pm
THIS new spoof-tastic comedy is a six-part mini-series featuring Will Ferrell, Michael K Williams and Kristen Wiig.
The plot revolves around legendary writer and director Eric Jonrosh (Will Ferrell) presenting/narrating his lost masterpiece, The Spoils Before Dying, in which jazz pianist Rock Banyon (Michael K Williams) is accused of killing his ex-lover, Fresno Foxglove (Maya Rudolph).
Rock is given three days to help solve the murder: instead, he makes a run for Mexico where he runs into a washed-up singer named Delores DeWinter (Kristen Wiig).
Hardboiled hi-jinx ensue in this spot-on send-up of '40s film noir, a sequel of sorts to the similarly styled 2013 series The Spoils of Babylon, which also featured Ferrell.
As his amusingly grizzled character remarks at the end of episode one: "Well that's what you're in for: jazz, adventure, cats, coppers, dead people, pills, booze – the list goes on."
