ACCLAIMED photographer Alec Soth is in Belfast tomorrow for a screening of a film documenting his photographic journey across the US. The Minneapolis man is a member of the world-renowned Magnum Photos, the cooperative that has documented some of the most significant global events and most notable people since its inception in Paris in 1947.

Soth is in town as part of the Belfast Photo Festival, which runs until the end of June, and will take part in a Q&A after the screening at QFT Belfast tomorrow. The film was shot while Soth worked on his project Broken Manual and saw him search for people living on the margins of society.

Blake Gopnik of the Washington Post wrote of the photographer: “His images have an unworldly clarity that comes close to ennobling his modest subjects. At the very least, his technique rejects the casualness that comes with shooting from the hip, and injects an Old Master formality into his photographs”.

:: Somewhere to Disappear will screen at QFT Belfast tomorrow at 6.30pm. See QueensFilmTheatre.com and BelfastPhotoFestival.com.
