Tom Hingley, Belfast Book Festival, Monday June 8, The Black Box, Belfast, 7pm

IN HIS recent autobiography Carpet Burns, Tom Hingley offers an evocative account of his globe-trotting stint as crooner for 'Madchester'-aligned Top Of The Pops regulars Inspiral Carpets.

Having successfully fronted a reactivated Inspirals a few years ago (the band are now back with original singer Steven Holt – you can read about Tom's acrimonious split with his former comrades in Carpet Burns), the Oxford-born musician has also forged an eclectic post-Inspirals career fronting garage-y pop rockers The Lovers and as a solo artist, combining acoustic folk, blues and punk influences with his mellifluous vocals to fine effect.

Expect solo tunes (such as the excellent Sucksess) along with a smattering of Inspirals favourites done acoustic style, plus spoken words from this supremely talented singer-songwriter as he recounts some of favourite musical memories.
