BELFAST playwright Owen McCafferty has penned a 'golf opera' to be performed in Newcastle, Co Down, as part of the Irish Open Fringe Festival later this month.

The opera, called LoveGolfOpera – music for which has been composed by Brian Irvine – has been inspired by the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation. It will be performed on May 30 at Castle Park and admittance is free.

The story takes a humorous look at what happens when one of the world's greatest sports gets mixed up with a romantic love story.
