Supervision of offenders is social science fiction

In his novel The Player of Games, Scottish author Iain Banks writes of a utopian society with no prisons. Instead, dangerous criminals are "slap-droned" - followed around by a small flying robot which monitors their movements and warns everybody they meet to keep their distance.
