Car sales down as credit crunch bites

The number of new cars bought in Northern Ireland in May was down more than 12 per cent on a year ago, new figures show.
The new car market is a good barometer of consumer confidence. A year ago, sales were riding high on the back of a generally buoyant economy and the booming housing market.
